One of the first things I learned when I started doing missions trips was that food is important to a people everywhere. If someone offers to share a meal with you it's meaningful, especially in places where food is not plentiful. I've had the opportunity to try a lot of different foods from a lot of different places usually because I was invited to a meal by people I care about. Those times are some of my favorite memories from so many of the places I've been. Sharing a meal with others is special. The time, money, and acts of service it takes to prepare a meal, and the moments spent gathered together around a table or sitting on a mat can't be replaced by any form of entertainment. The people who shared those meals with me are some that I'm most fond of. Those moments and the parts of their lives they offered up are etched in my memory. They were opportunities to learn about cultures and most importantly about people and their stories.
This summer the Teach ONE team shared reading and math lessons with the teachers and students at the Legacy Academy in Lusaka West. At the end of the week the Zambian teachers shared a piece of themselves and their culture with our visitors. It was such a fun afternoon preparing and eating the meal side by side as well as a special and memorable way to end the Teach ONE trip. I hope you enjoy the pictures from the day.
